I've been stuck on the idea of a Knight/King Hannor AU I've been bantering back and for with MalMao
So there's this kingdom run by King Elijah who doesn't have any heirs and doesn't seem to care much about that but then he finds he has a bastard son, Connor. He's whisked away to court where he starts to take the mantle of prince and heir. He's adaptable tho, so he's taking it rather well albeit it's lonely. He knows he's hated by the court because they see him as a threat and is hated by everyone else simply for being a bastard.
He needs protection, tho. he has a guard of knights. One of them is Hank Anderson, worn out and washed out. Once a great knight but finds little solace in anything that's not alcoholic. This is his final chance. But he's bitter about the job. Babysitting. Some runt too. Of course, Connor doesn't need to prove himself but when Hank sees that not only can he defend himself and is fiercely clever, he also has a tongue as sharp as his sword and a wit to go with it. Hank finds himself unable to treat Connor like the revered royalty he is. Instead, they become fast friends.
And even faster lovers.
Cue secret meetings in secret corners of the garden. Kissing breathlessly like every moment is stolen. The adoration for one another is dangerous but they can't fight it no matter how hard they try. Hank would die for Connor, Connor would rather he stayed and kiss him again.
All the while political shit is happening. People don't want Connor to become king and will do whatever they can to stop it, there are those who believe in Connor and are loyal to him. Most of all Hank, whose fire has reignited once more. Everyone knows Hank is Connor's weakness, but also his strength. Hank is fierce in battle, even more so when he has something to protect.
